Our Story: Crafted in the Waikato

My name is Susan Murray, and my journey into soap making started when I attended a soap-making class. I absolutely loved it!

After that, I started experimenting at home and quickly realised that this was something I could be creative with and build on through my own life experiences. To me, making soap is a bit like baking in the kitchen — only instead of making food, I’m making soap!

I spent a lot of time looking into the different soap-making methods used around the world, learning what worked well and what didn’t. What really fascinated me was the incredible scope for adding your own “flavour” to soap. There are so many different ingredients and combinations to explore — from the base oils and natural colours to essential oils, fragrances and the different processes used from start to finish.

It also gave me an opportunity to think about what is better for our planet. As I learned more about the ingredients and processes used in everyday supermarket soaps, I became increasingly motivated to create something different — products that I could feel good about making and using.

Next to pick up on my enthusiasm was my husband, Andrew, who has been incredibly supportive behind the scenes. He helps with all the things I’m less interested in — the website, IT and production processes. I even let him into the “soap kitchen” every now and then… although I much prefer that he sticks to the other stuff !

I love sharing my soaps with people who care about what they put on their skin and the impact their choices can have on the environment.

Our hope is that you’ll enjoy using our soaps as much as I enjoy making them — thoughtfully, creatively and with care in every batch.
